20+ years of production. Rock bottom and back. One mission: build leaders, not followers.
Ben Lang's story doesn't start at the top. It starts in 2003, with a passion for real estate investing — flipping homes and acquiring rentals before most agents his age had even pulled their first listing. When he relocated from Lansing to Oakland County in 2005, he went all in, joining Keller Williams in Troy and building a clientele from scratch.
By 2012, Ben had emerged as one of the leading short sale agents in Metro Detroit — a period that required not just hustle, but a deep understanding of human psychology, financial complexity, and relentless follow-through. That year, he assembled his first team. In 2014, he opened his own brokerage.
For several years, everything seemed to fall into place. Then, in 2016, Ben lost his sister — a devastating blow that sent him down a destructive path of substance abuse. By the end of 2017, he entered rehabilitation. As 2018 began, the consequences of addiction dismantled everything he had built: a turbulent divorce, financial ruin, failed business ventures, legal troubles. Complete rock bottom.
"My addiction led me down a path so dark, it seemed unimaginable. But it was in that darkness that I found the indomitable spirit I didn't know I had."
Refusing to let adversity define him, Ben began rebuilding — piece by piece, day by day. He returned to his roots: a Psychology degree from the University of Rochester (B.A., Summa Cum Laude), his John Maxwell coaching certification, and a conviction that the only way forward was through radical honesty, faith, and service to others.
Today, Ben is 7+ years sober. He is back at the helm of RE/MAX The Collective Agency, one of the top-producing RE/MAX offices in Michigan. He is married to Lisa, a father to Makenzie, and a passionate advocate for recovery, resilience, and the belief that your darkest chapter doesn't have to be your last.
Ben's training programs, books, and the Growth Obsessed Agents movement exist because of everything he went through — not in spite of it. He coaches agents not just on systems and scripts, but on the identity work that has to come first. Because he knows firsthand: before you can build a great business, you have to become the person who deserves one.

Every system, script, and strategy is downstream of identity. Before you can build a great business, you have to become the agent who deserves one. Ben learned this the hard way — and now teaches it with conviction.
Consistency beats intensity. The agents who win long-term are the ones with repeatable systems — not the ones who grind hardest in short bursts.
Skills without mindset and systems are wasted. But when all three align, the results compound in ways most agents never experience.
Ben speaks at real estate conferences, brokerage trainings, and leadership events across the country. His sessions go beyond motivation — they deliver the mindset shifts, systems, and strategies that produce real, measurable results.
